Skoda Elroq sits between existing Enyaq and budget-friendly Epiq city SUV

Skoda’s new design language will make its debut on a new ID 3-sized crossover later this year

Skoda’s new sub-£40k Elroq EV has been spotted testing, offering an early glimpse of the car ahead of its official launch this autumn.

The Skoda Elroq will be the mid-tier option between the existing Skoda Enyaq and the upcoming, budget-friendly Epiq city SUV, taking on rivals such as the Volvo EX30, Hyundai Kona Electric and MG 4. It is expected to be priced between £30,000 and £35,000.

The new EV will be a mid-sized crossover based on Volkswagen’s MEB platform. It will be Skoda’s second EV to reach showrooms, following its larger Enyaq sibling. Skoda hasn’t disclosed precise dimensions yet, but it is understood to be closer in footprint to the Volkswagen ID 3 than the ID 4-sized Enyaq.

Skoda’s Elroq will use similar batteries to many of its Volkswagen Group platform-mates, including from VW and Cupra, with 58kWh or 82kWh options expected. However, because it will be a slightly smaller car, its range could be boosted to beat the Enyaq’s 350-mile official maximum.

The Enyaq also has rapid-charging functionality and needs just 35 minutes to get from 10-80% capacity, which is expected to carry across to the Elroq.

Inside, the Elroq is expected to follow in the footsteps of the Enyaq, with a 13in touchscreen combined with an array of physical buttons. The Elroq is also likely to feature Skoda’s ‘Design Suite’ trim packages, and major on space and practicality – though official capacities remain to be confirmed.

The latest shots show the new model testing at the Nürburgring in Germany, and while it is still heavily camouflaged, it clearly features a blanked-off version of Skoda’s new ‘Tech-Deck’ grille, part of a revised look that Skoda calls the ‘Modern Solid’ design language.

The car also looks to have wraparound LED headlights and a large lower air intake that is expected to wear a chunky, 4×4-style surround.
